What does it mean that anyone can call themselves a therapist?
Unfortunately, psychotherapy and counselling is an unprotected profession, which means anybody can call themselves a therapist or a counsellor. But this is likely to change at some point soon because it's a needed and necessary thing to keep everybody safe. And there are ways to make sure you're in good, safe and qualified hands.

Is it normal that my therapist remembers loads about me?
In sum, your therapist may have a fantastic memory but rest assured 99.9% of therapists don't try to remember every detail. They certainly do not make notes about all the details that you share. And it's not the main thing that we're listening for either. Your therapist has a great memory because we are listening so focused and attentively to you and what you share in your therapy session.

Do I need to talk about feelings in therapy?
Perhaps you're worried your therapist'll dig up feelings you ought to know and share. It shouldn't be like that. But we are interested. Why?

Can my therapist decide when therapy ends?
My therapist has told me therapy is ending. Can a therapist leave their client?

Can I ask my therapist about them?
Ask away. Don't be shy with your therapist. Even if they don't answer your question, don't worry. They are glad you asked (trust me!).

Therapy in the media isn't therapy
Therapy in the media couldn't be further from reality. Here's how we see therapists in the media...

Counsellor Reflections: how to help?
Helping others is putting your own oxygen mask on first and working on yourself. When fit and strong, you help others fight their hurdles.

Can I see more than one therapist?
Many therapists will not see a client for individual therapy who is also engaging in therapy with another professional. Why?

Will a therapist take sides?
But will they take sides? Might they agree with everything a client says? Might they encourage and collude?

Can my therapist know I smoke marijuana?
You may be worried about the consequences of talking about marijuana with your therapist. Let's answer a few questions you may have...

Can my therapist cry?
Can my therapist cry? Your therapist should be themselves around you. Yet, there are reasons a therapist shouldn't cry too...

Am I a burden to my therapist?
You probably know your therapist cares, it's a choice they've made. But that's not why you asked.
